Engine Room Reality: Projection Mapping @ Good2You Festival (2024)

I created this site-specific piece for the Good2You Festival to see if I could bring a piece of dead industrial history back to life. The installation focused on a vintage control panel, which I treated as a physical stage for a digital narrative. Using my analog-to-digital approach, I built a world around the machine using three specific layers of projection.

The visual setup consisted of three parts:

  • The Machine Layer: I mapped visuals directly onto the control panel's surface. By timing the light to hit the original buttons and meters, I made the hardware look like it was suddenly functioning again—bringing a "pulse" back to the physical objects.

  • The Atmospheric Layer: Behind the machine, I projected a layer of industrial pipes with digital smoke. This gave the installation a sense of depth, making it feel less like a screen and more like a real, working engine room.

  • The Narrative Layer: I projected video works onto two separate panels to add a more cinematic element to the space.
